I feel kinda bad (for reasons I'll get to in a minute) that we weren't supporting this earlier, but I urge all Pagans to look at:

Drawing Down the Moon

See, WAY back in 1995, I was contacted by this guy who was interested in making a movie who's hero was a Pagan (a Wiccan, to be specific); he was looking for someone to act as a sort of "Pagan Technical Advisor" to make sure he got it right, and didn't portray us in a light that we'd consider inaccurate. He wanted to know if I knew who he should talk to (and as someone who comsidered myself to be a regular on the Usenet Newsgroup he contacted me through, I felt I should make d--n sure he'd get the help he needed, even if I couldn't help him directly).

Well, not being a Wiccan, I didn't think I'd be much help there. But, having been very active on the Usenet Newsgroup alt.pagan (which was where he found me), I "pointed" out a couple other regulars (who I knew to be not only Wiccan, but also very intelligent, not to mention SANE), and basically said, "I really respected these people's opinions; you should hire whomever they recommend for the job."

I never did follow-up to see who they did recomend, but Steve apparently did remember that I'd helped him out! :-) A couple years had gone by, and I'd actually forgotten about his project! Until, that is, he contacted me in 1999, and told me that, not only was the filming finished, so was most of the editing! He'd been able to get Walter Koenig (most famous as Chekov from the origional Star Trek ("Admiral! We have found the nuclear wessel!"), but more recently as the evil SoB known as Bester, on what may very well have been (speaking purely for myself!) the most awesome SciFi series ever, Babylon 5) to co-star!

More importantly, Steve had cast an amazingly hard-working young lady named Karina Krepp to star. She really busted her tail for the role...

Anyway, Steve remembered that I'd helped him out before, and asked if I'd be willing/able to help again. It seemed he'd been having trouble finding a major studio to sign onto the project, which was making it very hard to get it released on any major scale. Well, The Blair Witch Project had just made a name for itself, and he was hoping to start a similar, Internet-based publicity machine, and he asked if I might be able to help with that. Specificly, he offered to send me a not-QUITE-ready-for-release copy of the movie, if I'd watch it and put a review of it on the web!

Unfortunately, at the time I was only months away from graduating (a double-major, in Computer Science, and Physics), and had a lot of school work left to look forward to! :-Q But I told him that, if he sent me a copy, I'd share it with my grove, and make one of them write a review! He agreed, and sent me a video tape!

I watched (and enjoyed!) the tape, then made copies for two or three grove-mates, each of whom assured me they'd write up a review for me to put on the web! Well, not only did none of them write a review, I never really pressured them to do so (although all later told me they thought the movie was good). And so, I never put up the page I'd told Steve that I would. :-(

Sorry Steve. You deserved better than that. You trusted me, and I let you down...

Anyway, I'd really suggest you ask your local video store to get a copy for you! If you bug/bother them long enough, you should be able to get them to order a copy for you... Failing that, you can buy a copy for yourself for $19.95 by clicking here!
